2019-20 Ga-Ga Ball

With the Small Adventure rubber surfacing is now in place we are turning our efforts to a new outdoor space at the other end of the school property – a GaGa Ball Pit!

We will be applying for grant money to be able to rubber surface this space as well so that it is nicer to play on than concrete, especially when diving for a ball, and much less muddy than grass.

What is Ga-Ga Ball?

Ga-ga is a variant of dodgeball that is played in a ga-ga “pit”. The game combines dodging, striking, running, and jumping, with the objective of being the last person standing.

2018-19 Small Adventure

Check out some images from the opening of the new and improved Small Adventure area! This would not have been possible without help from many of you – so a huge THANK YOU!

Community Sponsors

Our fantastic community sponsors have either donated prizes for our fundraising events, sponsored in cash to our events or have made a donation directly to the playground re-surfacing fund.

Why are we focusing on rubber surfacing?

  • Easy to see foreign objects & easier cleaning
Broken glass and other debris are hard to see and difficult to clean out of the current pebbles & mulch
Rubber surfacing will aid inspection & clean up, keeping our students safe.
  • Accessibility
Rubber surfacing provides an accessible surface to those with mobility challenges, meeting ADA standards.
  • Promotes safety with a uniform, stable, cushioning surface in all seasons
Mulch has inconsistent protection due to temperature & maintenance, providing low fall protection during the freezing winter months and reduced protection in high traffic areas when compacted or dug out
Rubber surfacing provides consistent protection through Kelowna’s temperature range and is not dependent on maintenance. Also falling onto mulch is not always pleasant, with little hands getting hurt on sharp pieces of mulch.
  • Non slip surface
In rain, snow & frost mulch can get very slippery for playing running games
Rubber surfacing has a non-slip surface, protecting our students from falls & collisions.
  • Environmentally friendly
Rubber surfacing uses recycled car tires, keeping them out of our landfills.
  • Aesthetically pleasing
Although not the top reason for rubber surfacing it is a nice benefit!

How can you help?

We are asking our whole GME community to help with this year’s special FUNdraising goals. Besides attending our FUNdraising initiatives there are other ways you can help out:

Donate directly to the playground fund

Tax receipts available!

If you would like to make a cash donation it can be done through the school either by cheque or online.

By Cheque: make your cheque out to Glenmore Elementary and put playground fund on the memo line and bring it to the GME office

Online: Follow the link below and choose Glenmore as the school and put playground fund in the message box
